Inspiring the Next Generation: IESL YMS Launches ‘Talk to School’ Program 2025

The Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) Young Members’ Section (YMS) has officially kicked off the Talk to School Program Series 2025 with an impactful inaugural session at Bandaranayake College, Gampaha. The event brought together over 500 physical science students from 13 schools in the Gampaha Education Zone, aiming to ignite their passion for engineering and guide them toward promising careers in the field.
A Grand Opening with Visionary Leaders
The event commenced with a warm welcome from Mr. Kasun Gunaratne, Principal of Bandaranayake College, followed by an insightful program briefing by Eng. Thilina Prabath, President of the Old Prefects’ Association. Eng. Dushyantha Wanniarachchi, Chair of IESL YMS, then provided an overview of the Talk to School initiative, emphasizing its role in shaping the next generation of engineers.
Empowering the Youth Through Engineering
A distinguished panel of seven keynote speakers delivered compelling and thought-provoking lectures, shedding light on the rewards of an engineering career, both at a personal level and for national development.
The Chief Guest, Eng. Granie R. Jayalath, President of IESL, highlighted the organization’s national contributions and its annual programs designed to benefit aspiring engineers. The Guest of Honor, Immediate Past President of IESL, Eng. (Prof.) Ranjith Dissanayake, introduced the AIS Framework for Socio-Economic Development, presenting its fundamental concepts alongside real-world applications.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Engineers
The second half of the session was dedicated to motivating students to excel in their A/Ls and explore diverse career paths within engineering. This segment, led by the Bandaranayake College Engineering Alumni Association (BCEAA), provided valuable insights from experienced professionals and academics.
A Collaborative Effort for a Greater Impact
The success of this program was made possible through the visionary leadership of Eng. Dushyantha Wanniarachchi, Chair of IESL YMS, and the guidance of Eng. Granie R. Jayalath, President of IESL. The collaboration between the Board of Prefects, Old Prefects’ Association, and the Engineering Alumni Association of Bandaranayake College played a crucial role in expanding the program’s reach.
The dedication of the IESL Student Chapters from the University of Moratuwa and University of Peradeniya added further prestige to the event, along with the unwavering support of media partners: Mora Wings Media Crew (University of Moratuwa), Gauge Newsletter (University of Peradeniya), and Bandaranayake College Photographic & Art Society.
